In this unit, we will be writing an informational report. An informational report is a factual text that provides real facts or real information about the topic being researched.
To be successful, students must include:
A table of contents
An introduction/generalization to explain the topic of the report
Information grouped by sub-topic
Descriptive factual information gathered from research
Text Features (e.g., text boxes, images, captions, labels, etc.)
An index
A glossary
Unit 1: Review of Paragraph Writing

A catchy title that describes the topic of my paragraph
An indent at the beginning of a new paragraph
A catchy introductory/topic sentence that clearly introduces the topic
A body, which includes:
- At least 3 detail sentences that give thoughts/reasons/ideas about the main idea - Expanding sentences that give examples and provides support for the detail sentences
A closing sentence that wraps up the paragraph and restates the topic in a different way
Transition words to connect and organize ideas
Stays on topic and is not repetitive
Focuses on 1 main idea only
Sophisticated/descriptive word choices and complex sentences
